The Research:
Besides the concept and needs of Atlas, we have departed from the idea that the name of a company carries with it meanings that are important to its owners and have motivated them in its creation. Atlas represents the beginning of the alphabet, which symbolizes the beginning of a new path, or the first of the blocks of construction that generates new ideas.
Atlas is also one of the Titans in the Greek mythology, the one who was punished by Zeus because he betrayed the other Titans by forming an alliance with the Olympians in the war against them. His eternal punishment was to hold the Celestial Sphere on his shoulders.
Atlas is still a commonly used symbol in western culture being associated mainly with the collections of terrestrial maps but he is also a symbol of strength and resistance, a support for something to be sustained.
In her famous book Atlas Shrugged , Ayn Rand uses Atlas, the Titan, as a symbol, a metaphor for the people who produce the most in society, who hold up in a way, the civilization on their shoulders. |
